Did you know that you can enter your child in SFPS' lottery to attend their school of choice? SFPS, like all districts in New Mexico, sets enrollment priorities. But SFPS provides parents with a three-month priority window to submit "interzone transfer requests," which are then entered into the lottery. SFPS began taking interzone requests on November 1st. The submission period ends on January 31st at 11:59 p.m.

All schools are part of the lottery, including Mandela International Magnet School, Desert Sage Academy and Early College Opportunities (ECO) High School.

"Interzone transfer requests provide parents and students with the chance to attend the school of their choice within the district. Perhaps an incoming middle school student wants to pursue biomedical learning as offered at Ortiz Middle School, but is in a different attendance zone. Through an interzone transfer, that desire could become a reality. I urge parents to take advantage of the lottery window as they seek to fulfill their students' learning preferences," said Superintendent Hilario "Larry" Chavez.

Districts must meet state enrollment priorities and can set others. In compliance with statute, SFPS has set three priorities beyond those set by the state. They are for:

Siblings. A student with a sibling who is currently attending and will continue attending the requested school for at least one more school year and has at least one legal parent in common. Step-siblings, cousins or children living together who do not have a parent in common will not qualify for this priority.

Employee Children. Employees must be the legal parents or guardians of the child, have full-time status and continue their full-time status the next school year. Step-parents, grandparents or other relatives who are currently employed full-time in SFPS but do not have legal custody of the child are not eligible for this priority.

Current Students. Preschool students who are currently in a state-funded preschool program at the requested school can receive priority. A student must be registered in the school to receive this priority. Students who previously attended but are not currently attending the requested school do not qualify for this priority.

For the 2024-25 school year, K-12 parents can submit their interzone requests through January 31st, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. by visiting https://www.sfps.info/page/enrollment.  Requests submitted after February 8th will be handled on a first-come, first-served basis.

The PreK lottery opened on December 1st and closes on February 15th at 11:59 p.m. Children must meet the program's age criteria on or before August 31st of the upcoming school year. For full-day PreK, the requirement is four years of age. For half-day programs at Nye Early Childhood Center, children musts be three years of age. All PreK sites have a maximum enrollment, so completing an application does not guarantee placement. Los padrastros, abuelos u otros familiares que actualmente trabajan a tiempo completo en SFPS pero que no tienen la custodia legal del niño no son elegibles para esta prioridad.

Los estudiantes actuales. Los estudiantes de preescolar que actualmente se encuentran en un programa preescolar financiado por el estado en la escuela solicitada pueden recibir prioridad. SFPS and the National Dance Institute of New Mexico (NDI-NM) are celebrating 30 years of partnership. This year's NDI-NM programs are reaching 515 third to fifth grade students in 11 Santa Fe elementary schools, including 10 SFPS elementary schools, through joyful dance classes that celebrate NDI's Core Four: work hard, do your best, never give up and be healthy. This spring students will participate in NDI-NM's 30th Anniversary Dream Big! show.

"SFPS students have benefitted in so many ways from our partnership with NDI-NM. Its programs impact students' physical well-being and social-emotional learning and cultivates in them a love of the arts and learning," said Superintendent Hilario "Larry" Chavez. "NDI New Mexico is proud to partner with SFPS in support of children’s physical well-being, social-emotional learning and academic success!  Thank you to the principals, teachers and staff at our participating schools for their commitment and hard work!" said NDI-NM.

¡SFPS y NDI celebran 30 años!

SFPS y el Instituto Nacional de Danza de Nuevo México (NDI-NM) están celebrando 30 años de asociación. Los programas de NDI-NM de este año están llegando a 515 estudiantes de tercer a quinto grado en 11 escuelas primarias de Santa Fe, incluidas 10 escuelas primarias de SFPS, a través de alegres clases de baile que celebran los cuatro núcleos del NDI: trabajar duro, hacer lo mejor que puedas, nunca rendirte y estar saludable. Esta primavera, los estudiantes participarán en el 30º aniversario de NDI-NM ¡Sueña en grande! espectáculo.

Congratulations to Gabriel Tafoya, orchestra director at Santa Fe High School (SFHS) and Milagro Middle School, whose Santa Fe High School Chamber Orchestra was selected as the 2024 All-State Honor Orchestra by the New Mexico Music Educators Association.

In other All-State honors, Hanbi Park from SFHS ranked first in the state on viola and Brian Avalos from Capital High School (CHS) ranked first in the state on oboe.

As reported in the Demon Tattler, "This is the first time a music program from Santa Fe Public Schools will be honored at the festival... Usually, only a few students are chosen from the orchestra to participate in the festival ensembles, but now the entire chamber orchestra will be attending the event."

“'The term ‘All State’ sounds both exciting and mysterious to me,' violinist Daniel Dou said. 'It’s my first time to attend an event like this, and I’ll give my best in it.'”
